I made the decision last December to lose weight and get healthy. I’m 52 years old and have watched my parents get older and slower, I didn’t want that to happen to me! I started Weight Watcher’s, exercising and walking. I signed up for local 5K’s and the Derby Mini-Marathon last Spring in Louisville. I walked them and it felt great to be out there even if it was at a walking pace. In July I set a goal to run every step of a Fall half marathon. In October I completed my first half marathon and I did RUN every step. I crossed the finish line in 2:12:49. In November I completed my second half marathon and took 30 seconds off my previous time. I can now say that I am hooked on running. My next big run will be the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February. I have lost 25 pounds, feel great and I have set a new goal…..Chicago Marathon 2012! Not bad for an old lady, LOL! ~December 2, 2011
I’m Jenny Hadfield, best- selling author and columnist with RunnersWorld.com and Women’s Running Magazine and lover of all things running. I started my running journey unable to make it to the end of my block without crying. With the help of a few great friends I ran my first 5K and crossing that finish line changed my life forever. This site is dedicated to mortal runners looking for guidance to get started on their journey and every day runners who need support to improve their performance. Join in the conversation to ask a question, learn from others and get inspired to run with your own style. We can all do it together, one step at a time.
